CAMEROON - Implosion in the Home SCNC? National Vice Chairman, Ndangam, drags National Treasurer, Yongbang, to Court, wants 100Milion FCFA for Libel.
Corruption, persecution, intimidation, torture, elimination, prosecution and silencing of opponents and deviants, mainly journalists who criticize the neocolonial dictatorship, are all means of terror that Paul Biya utilizes to maintain his clan in power. After having weakened the opposition parties mainly by corrupting their leaders and prosecuting independent journalists, the same strategy is applied to the SCNC, an independence movement that claims part of Cameroon?s land. It is all the more easy for the Biya regime to weaken the SCNC since the Council?s claims are not free of flaws, notably its independence based upon the British cultural inheritance, not upon any African culture, and its economic independence based upon the South-Western oil-rich area while oil is more of a curse than a manna for African populations. These are factors to bear in mind in order to understand the following story by Postwatch magazine. TAI 5/28/2004.
Hearings begin on Monday May 31 on Suit no 54/03-04 filed by Augustine Feh Ndangam, the current Vice Chairman of the Southern Cameroons National Council, SCNC (an independence movement claiming part of Cameroon?s land) against the National Treasurer, Dr Arnold Boh Yongbang and four others.
The four in question include a Mr. Nke Valentine, Editor of Today newspaper, Mr. Ntemfag (Ntemfac) Ofege Publisher-delegate of Today newspaper and United Media Incorporated the parent company of Today newspaper and other publications and broadcast media.
The Suit, filed by a certain Barrister Bobga Harmony Mbuton, a Bamenda-based lawyer also to be an SCNC lawyer, is demanding 100.000.000FCFA ($183,856.00) of the five defendants for libel.
The story goes that sometime last year Dr Arnold Boh Yongbang published the text on the Internet called ?Figment of their imagination? which contained the following excerpts about Mr. Ndangam.
2. Figment NO 2: On the eve of the launching of his party in Bamenda, Forbin leads a delegation of four including Yembe and of course, Ndangam, to the Bishop?s House, Bamenda where the prelate was spending part of his annual leave. The prelate again tells them that at the time of his ordination to the priesthood he made a promise not to take part in partisan politics. The prelate then goes on to ask Yembe, former SDF Provincial Chair, what he was doing in the delegation. Yembe replied that he was there to help them: they laughed.
Figment No 4: Well informed sources have confirmed that the rogue regime gave Forbin and his organizing committee chair 100.000.000 (one hundred million) FCFA form the JDP so as to destabilize the SCNC.
Figment No 5: Readers will remember my repeated warnings about Ndangam: how he as the leader of an SCNC delegation to Abidjan in June 1996 refused to sign the forwarding letter to African Heads of State, where the delegation had had a fruitful meeting with a key diplomatic contact; how he campaigned in the SDF primaries to enter La Republique parliament soon after the meeting in Abidjan where a plan of action had been agreed upon for the liberation of Southern Cameroon; why he had to be destituted from his functions a Vice Chairman of the SCNC as a result; how he while still SCNC Vice Chairman had requested me as SCNC Treasurer in August 1995 to give out a loan of 300.000FCFA to a certain E.N. Doh to enable him travel back to Lagos where he resided in order to raise funds for the SCNC; no funds were ever raised and the said Doh has not refunded the loan; how after hijacking the SCNC, Augustine F. Ndangam and Nfor Ngala Nfor traveled to London in October 2000 leaving Pastor Toh Njaah, the organizer of the sabotaged London Conference back at home, and told the home front that they attended the London Conference;
How Ndangam alone from home attended the Washington BSC Summit in September 2001 with funding from the regime through the Gwanmesias; how with funding from the same source he along with Nfor Ngala, Mbunwe Samba and Gumne through the agency of the same Doh formed SCAPO in Lagos; how we later found out that SCAPO as in reality the fore runner of the Southern Cameroons Democratic Movement (SCDM), a political party formed by Pa Foncha and the four before they died; how he four hijacked the SCNC after Ndoki?s resignation to negotiate federation with La Republique; how the quad mounted a campaign to denigrate, calumny and blackmail against me for daring to expose them; how they deceived a foreign diplomat in Yaounde to give them funds for the struggle only for the diplomat to discover that they were indeed agents of La Republique; the diplomats resolved never to see them again; how the duo were a danger and a liability to our struggle? and now ? Augustine Feh Ndangam, the first Vice chair of AACI?s Standing Committee and of the SCNC, true to himself as a fifth columnist, has at last come out of his true colours as the chairman of the JDP Organising Committee ? and only last December 2003, Ndangam was swearing to professor Carlson Anyangwe in Bamenda that he had nothing to do with the JDP.
I have on several occasions since 1996 drawn Council?s attention to the faces behind the masks of the four fifth columnists but I was calumnised and called names. They have so far failed to deliver the goods promised to the regime and Mbumwe was the first to pay the price of failure; the panic stricken three are awaiting their turn. That is why Dr Kevin Gumne, formerly head of the Franco Cameroonian Alliance finance house in Bamenda told Chief Ayamba in Lagos, on the latter?s way to Banjul that he could not accompany them to Banjul because he could not expose himself to the regime again.
Dr Arnold Boh Yongbang.
Mr. Valentine Nke published the complete package of the above, culled from the Internet, in one edition of Today newspaper.
Ntemfac Ofege is being dragged to court on the following quote culled from the Ambasos, FDRSC, and www.southerncameroons.org discussion group on the Internet; itself a reaction to the above posting by Dr Yongbang, that is to say:
Need I add more: this issue has more significance than is apparent. When Mr. Ndangam returned from the US Washington Summit he led an SCNC delegation to Kumba, sponsored by Albert Mukong, who had just extorted some millions from LRC. Among a generalized misrepresentation, distortions and lies he told about Ebong, the Washington Summit etc?a crucial issue was for the ?physical elimination? of folks like Yongbang, Ntemfac, Visha, Mbide, Manzee, Vewessee, etc. who saw through the lies, Nfor Ngala Nfor stood up and challenged those who suggested eliminating the refuseniks. Today we have been vindicated as the masks are coming of the hideous faces.
I believe we bring up this issue because a gung-ho of dastards have tried and will try again to use our blood and sweat to collect their pieces of silver. Mistakes yes, treachery no, collaboration not. There is a certain bourgeoisie class in this struggle that pretends to be combatants whereas they lie, blackmail and are total ?collabos? with the enemy. The pretenders have been with us since 1958. How these fellows live with themselves beats my imagination.
The 12-poioint Suit concludes that by all of the above the defendants are saying that the Plaintiff, Mr. Ndangam is a liar, a treacherous person, a hideous person, a murderer, a corrupt person, a spy, an opportunist and one unfit to be a leader.
Barrister Bobga is claiming general damages of 100.000.000FCFA and he wants a Court injunction restraining Dr Yongbang, Mr. Nke Valentine, Today newspaper, UMI and ?each of them from further printing, publishing or circulating or causing to be printed, published or circulated of the plaintiff the said or any similar defamatory statements, through any print, electronic or other media of communication.
Although Messrs. Ntemfac Yongbang, Nke and others were not immediately available to comment on this matter it is reported that several attempts by local and foreign units of the SCNC, Ambazonia, SCYL too call the above protagonists to order and settle this matter amicably failed. It is expected that the sluice gates of hidden SCNC activities would now be opened as the defendants try to defend themselves. However, some SCNC officials indicate to Postwatch that they have until Monday 31, to settle this matter out of court considering the sensitive nature of the exercise as well as the deep wealth of information that might come out.
Reported by Postwatch magazine editors?as unfolding.
