COMMUNIQUE

The Coalition for National Reconciliation and Reconstruction met in Yaounde on July 12, 2004 to examine its plan of action to ensure the computerisation of the electoral process before the next presidential election, and to plan its Grand Rallies in the Northern provinces of the country. Note was taken of the absence of many leaders of the Coalition, who are either already in the Northern provinces to ensure the success of the Grand Rallies, or are out of the country for various reasons. Following an exhaustive discussion of the issues under review, the Coalition:
1) Takes note, with pleasure, of the participation of Mr. Jean Jacques Ekindi at the peaceful Protest March of Tuesday, July 6, 2004 and invites all leaders of the opposition and other active forces in the country to join the Coalition to demand the computerisation of the electoral process before the next Presidential election.
2) Maintains the programme of the Grand Rallies in Ngaoundére (July 16), Garoua (July 18) and Maroua (July 20, 2004), as previously scheduled.
3) Decides to suspend the Protest March of July 13 in Yaounde and during the period of the Northern rallies, in order to better prepare and co-ordinate the rallies and related events in the northern region.
4) Once more, takes note of the declarations of Mr. Marafa Hamidou Yaya, Minister of State for Territorial Administration and Decentralisation, and Chief Electoral Officer in Cameroon, on the computerisation of the electoral process, and his veiled invitation of the Coalition to dialogue on the important issue. In this regard, the Coalition invites Mr. Marafa and the Government to take advantage of this break in the Protest Marches of the Coalition and come up with details on such dialogue and the concrete actions the Coalition and the Government can take together to ensure the computerisation of the electoral process before the next Presidential election.
5) Decides to hold a meeting of the Council of Leaders of the Coalition immediately after the northern rallies to programme the next Protest Marches of the Coalition, to ensure the computerisation of the electoral process, before the next Presidential election.

Finally, the Coalition thanks Cameroonians at home and in the Diaspora for their massive participation in the Protest Marches, which is an indication of their overwhelming support of the call for the computerisation of the electoral process before the next presidential election. The Coalition takes note of the encouragement it continues to receive from Cameroonians of all walks of life, and across the political spectrum, following each of its Protest Marches.
